The First 100 Days
A Letter from the Superintendent
Dear Gettysburg Area School District Families, Staff, and Community,
It is with great honor and a deep sense of responsibility that I begin my service as Superintendent of the Gettysburg Area School District. Serving previously as the Assistant Superintendent, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand what makes this district such a great place to learn, work, and grow. Our dedicated educators, supportive families, and incredible students form the foundation of a truly inspiring learning community — one that I am proud to now lead.
Gettysburg is a district rooted in tradition, yet focused on the future. As I step into this new role, I plan to honor our past and recognize the unwavering commitment to move forward together with purpose.
This transition into the superintendency is a significant time to listen, connect, and reflect. Over the next several months, I will continue to engage with staff, students, families, and community members to deepen relationships and align our shared vision. Together, we will build on our strengths, confront our challenges, and embrace new opportunities for growth.
To help guide this work, I’ve developed a 100-Day Entry Plan centered on four essential goals: building strong relationships with stakeholders; ensuring academic success for all students; strengthening organizational efficiency and culture; and expanding community partnerships.
These priorities are grounded in the following principles: transparency, collaboration, excellence, and innovation. Most importantly, they reflect my belief that effective leadership begins with listening and is sustained by meaningful partnerships.
I am excited to continue this journey with all of you, and I am confident that, together, we will create even more opportunities for our students to thrive. Thank you for the trust you’ve placed in me, and for your continued support of the Gettysburg Area School District.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeffrey Matzner
Superintendent
Gettysburg Area School District
