Superintendent Biography
Dr. Jeffrey Matzner, Superintendent of Schools
Dr. Jeffrey Matzner serves as Superintendent of the Gettysburg Area School District (GASD), officially stepping into the role on July 1, 2025. With more than 20 years of experience in public education, Dr. Matzner brings a deep commitment to student achievement, staff support, and community partnership.

Dr. Matzner joined GASD in 2023 as Assistant Superintendent, where he played a pivotal role in advancing academic programs, strengthening professional development, and leading district-wide initiatives aimed at improving student outcomes. His leadership included oversight of school assessments, federal programs, and key components of district operations.
As Superintendent, Dr. Matzner oversees daily district operations, budget management, policy development in collaboration with the school board, and ensures the fulfillment of educational standards for all students. Among his recent accomplishments are leading the renewal of the district's 2025-2028 Comprehensive Plan, finalizing the K-8 curriculum adoption, and implementing structured practices to enhance district-wide consistency.
Dr. Matzner began his career in education as a sixth-grade teacher at Yellow Breeches Middle School in the South Middleton School District. He later served as assistant principal at Linglestown Middle School and then spent over a decade as principal at Central Dauphin Middle School, where he built a strong foundation in school leadership and student-centered growth.

He holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania (now Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania), a master's degree in middle school education from Rosemont College, and his principal certification from Shippensburg University. Dr. Matzner earned his superintendent's letter and Doctor of Education in school system leadership from Widener University.
