A Letter from the Assistant Superintendent

Dear Gettysburg Area School District Families, Staff, and Community,

I'm incredibly thankful for the opportunity to serve as the Assistant Superintendent for the Gettysburg Area School District. Over the past eight years, I've enjoyed getting to know our staff, students, families, and the community while serving as Lincoln Elementary Principal. During that time, I saw what it truly means to be a Warrior through the strength and pride within our students and staff.

My journey in education began as a second-grade teacher at Conewago Township Elementary School, where I spent a decade in the classroom cultivating a love of learning in young students. Since then, I have remained committed to supporting student success through leadership, collaboration, and a focus on positive school environments. I strongly believe in the power of relationships with students, families, staff, and the community to create an environment where all learners can grow.

Throughout my time at Gettysburg, I have had the privilege of working with dedicated educators and community members who care deeply about our students. I am ready to continue that work in this new role, supporting our schools, advancing our district's strategic goals, and helping ensure every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Stepping into this role is both exciting and meaningful to me. I look forward to building on the strong foundation we've created together and continuing to support the people and programs that help our students succeed. There is important work ahead, and I'm eager to move forward together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Matthew McFarland
