GASD Resource Guide

Being present at school gives students the opportunity to learn, build relationships, participate in activities, and make the most of their school experience. Every day matters, and regular attendance helps our Warriors stay connected to their classrooms, teachers, classmates, and school community.

We know students may occasionally need to be absent. When that happens, families can use Skyward Family Access to enter attendance/absence information for their students or contact their school by phone. Skyward is a web-based system available 24 hours a day.

Gettysburg Area School District is pleased to offer Chromebooks/laptops through a 24/7 computing initiative. This initiative provides students and their families a valuable tool that will give them access to a variety of positive resources.

The primary mission of the 24/7 Chromebook/Laptop Program is to transform teaching, learning, and assessment at GASD. A new generation of students expects a learning environment that integrates today's digital tools, accommodates a mobile lifestyle, adapts to individual learning styles, and encourages collaboration and teamwork.

The Gettysburg Area School District recognizes that parents have the primary responsibility for the health of their children and all scheduled medications should be administered at home. However, if your healthcare provider decides it is necessary for your child to receive medication during the school day, the provider signature and specific directions must be provided to the school nurse with the medication in a properly labeled container. This includes all over-the-counter medications as well. Medications sent in or dropped off without the required information and/or labeled packaging/container, will not be given. Students cannot self-carry or self-administer ANY medication, except for those individuals with the required paperwork for asthma inhalers or epinephrine administration devices. If you have any questions, please contact your building nurse.

As part of this year's updates, we would like to make families aware of an important change regarding student photography. Parents or guardians who do not wish to have their child's individual photograph or video used in district print, video, or publications must submit a written request to their building principal at the beginning of each school year. Upon receiving the request, the district will make reasonable efforts to ensure the student's image is not used in district publications or media.

A new Pennsylvania law has changed how school districts, including Gettysburg Area School District (GASD), communicate about certain weapon-related incidents.

Here's how GASD has been communicating under the new law

What is Act 44?
Act 44 of 2025 requires school districts to notify parents/guardians and staff within 24 hours of a weapon-related incident that occurs on school property, district transportation, or at school-sponsored activities.

This requirement went into effect January 6, 2026.
