The Gettysburg School District supports a staff of 9 full time certified Music Educators.

 In the Elementary schools, all students receive instruction in general music once a four day cycle for 45 minutes. General music provides opportunities for performance in grade level Fine Arts programs. All music students will learn the recorder in third grade and will continue to build instrumental skills on recorder throughout their elementary music experience.

Students may elect to participate in band, choir and orchestra beginning in 4^th grade. Students in elementary band, orchestra and chorus will present district-wide concerts for the community. Advanced 5^th grade band and orchestra students will participate in a 5/6 ensemble which will meet throughout the school year. Advanced orchestra and band students will participate in 2 concerts and 2 elementary tours during the school year.

The Gettysburg Middle School Curriculum offers students grades six through eight opportunities to participate in band, orchestra and choir. Students in an ensemble will receive ½ hour small group lessons along with an hour of ensemble instruction twice weekly.  Ensemble groups will perform at least three times a year and will have the opportunity to attend adjudications. 

Gettysburg Middle School offers general music for students in 6^th - 8th grade. Students will have the opportunity to explore guitar, ukulele, world-drumming and music technology.

At Gettysburg High School, students have the opportunity to participate in Symphonic Orchestra, Concert Band, Marching Band, and Chorus.  All entering ensembles require teacher recommendation and/or an audition.

The HS music department offers the following electives: Music Theory, Musical Theater, Voice Class and Music Technology.

Extra-curricular offerings include jazz band, string ensemble, spring musical, and ceremonial band. High School ensembles have traveled and competed throughout the United States and Europe.

Throughout its long history, Gettysburg students have advanced to Districts, Regionals, All-States, All-Eastern and National Ensembles. Gettysburg students have excelled in musical theater, have been placed in professional ensembles, have succeeded as music educators and have continued to play in their local communities.
