Success Through Academic Recognition of Students
WHAT IS S.T.A.R.S.?
The name S.T.A.R.S. is an acronym for Success Through Academic Recognition of Students. It is the parent/community sponsored academic booster organization for Gettysburg Area High School and is administered entirely by parent volunteers.
The mission of the S.T.A.R.S. program is to motivate students to achieve academic excellence and improvement and to formally recognize their achievements.

Many business leaders are aware that educating our students is a goal of the entire community. Therefore, we seek the support of local businesses and civic organizations in the Gettysburg Area School District. In order for this program to be successful we must have the support of the entire community.
RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS:
Celebrations are held quarterly in conjunction with the end of each marking period where students are recognized as “Rising Stars”, “Shining Stars” and “North Stars” at a breakfast that is held at the high school. Rising Stars are students who have shown great improvement in the classroom. The Shining Star is a student who has demonstrated excellence over the course of the marking period. North Stars are students who demonstrate excellence of character; they are models and illustrate a direction we would like all students to point towards. Each student receives a S.T.A.R.S. gift such as a mug, water bottle, travel mug, etc. Photographs of all STARS are displayed on a recognition board, known as the “Galaxy of Stars”, which is in place at the Gettysburg Area High School.
RECOGNITION OF DONORS:
Our donors are recognized at the breakfast they sponsor on the “Galaxy of Stars” board for that marking period. The 2015/16 sponsoring donors were:
Gettysburg Optimist Club Gettysburg Pediatrics
WHAT YOUR CONTRIBUTION DOES FOR STARS
Approximately 110 students are recognized each marking period – 50 Rising Stars, 50 Shining Stars and several North Stars. The estimated cost of each marking period celebration is $400 which provides the gifts that each honored student receives and the breakfast that is provided for the honored students and their parents. Support from our generous donors is vitally important for this program. Your support will directly benefit many of Gettysburg’s finest young men & women.
