Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Reading
Hi! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Reading and I love teaching first grade and teaching students to read! It is one of the most important things we do in first grade. My dad was the Superintendent of the Everett Area Schools--actually had the elementary school built there! And my mom was a School Psychologist for the L.I.U. I have always wanted to be a teacher. Both my parents were teachers, so you could say it is in my blood. I started taking classes part-time at Shippensburg University while working at the Dobbin House Restaurant before we started our family. When my babies were born, I took some time off of school to care for them. When my youngest daughter started Kindergarten, a Building Paraprofessional job came available at Keefauver Elementary School, so I worked there and continued working at the D.H. I loved being around the kids and it solidified my desire to teach, so I decided to continue my education. I went back to Shippensburg University part-time while working part-time at Keefauver and the D.H. while raising my family. After Keefauver closed, I became a Kindergarten Paraprofessional at James Gettys, still continuing to work at the D.H. (I worked at the D.H. for 20 years!), continuing my education part-time at Shippensburg until I finally got my teaching certification! Right after student-teaching I long-termed subbed in third grade, then got a job in first--which is where I student-taught! I then went back to Shippensburg University to get my Master's in Reading. I have worked very hard to get where I am today, with such appreciation for being here, and I continue to work very hard to do the best I can for your children--and have fun doing it!
I am very proud to say that I have an amazing husband and two beautiful, amazing children of my own, who are now attending college. They have all been incredibly supportive throughout my journey to become a teacher!
