Gettysburg Area High School’s World Language program has been recognized as one of an elite group of exemplary foreign language programs and has received the 2019-2020 Golden Globe Award by the Pennsylvania State Modern Language Association (PSMLA).

To qualify for this award, our program was measured against 11 indicators set forth by the organization ranging from the percentage of students enrolled in language courses, instructional practices, standards-based assessment, program offerings, and staff professional development. National Foreign Language Week

    March 3-9, 2019

World language students and staff have been celebrating the annual National Foreign Language Week by participating in the poster contest, guessing trivia questions, teaching students and faculty new phrases in different languages, learning dances, cooking, enjoying the international menu in the cafeteria, and creating videos that promote world language study. Most activities included prizes and were fun for students and staff.

    McDaniel College's German-American Day

German students visit the German American Day annually in October. They enjoy an authentic German meal, participate in workshops, hear a German concert, and learn a German dance.

During the last 4 years, Gettysburg High School's students have been winning prizes in the T-shirt design contest. Last October, Beatrice Slevin-Trigo won the first prize in this contest. About 1000 German students across Pennsylvania and Maryland wore T-shirts with her design on them.
